Mary Lasater received her BFA in Secondary Art Education from the University of Texas at Austin in 1978 and taught art in Victoria, Texas.  During her teaching career that focused on students with disabilities, Mary went on to complete her Masters and Doctorate of Education degrees in the area of special education.  For more about that part of her life, go to lasaterconsulting.com.

While working as an education consultant, Mary always continued to study and create art.  Her previous focus on realism turned to abstract design after studying monotype printmaking with Jim Johnson at his studio in San Miguel de Allende in 2004.  Her abstract designs have since extended into oil painting following a painting course with Maxine Price, well-known abstract painter who exquisitely utilizes the palette knife to layer in color.  Now pursuing art exclusively, Mary’s current work reflects her deep sense of color and its emotional impact.

Two series shown include: “New Beginnings” and “Merging Locales.”  “New Beginnings” is made up of 14 paintings - 12 with thickly applied oils on canvas and 2 with thin washes of oils.  “Merging Locales” is comprised of 18 water-based ink monotypes on cotton stock.
